Vice-Chancellor for the Catholic University of Malawi Rev. Fr. Dr. George Buleya, has reconstituted the University’s Strategic Plan Committee to spearhead and facilitate the process of reviewing the 2015-2020 Catholic University of Malawi Strategic Plan and come up with a new strategic plan.
In a circular with reference to VC/CU/Admini/2021/05, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the need to have the past strategic plan reviewed, to guide the committee to come up with a new strategic plan for the next five years.
“In doing so, the committee will examine the gaps and weaknesses of the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan, build on the strengths and achievements of the same, examine current trends and practices in higher education and re-position the University for effective, dynamic, robust service to its proximate and ultimate stakeholders” Reads part of the circular.
The circular further discloses the new committee comprised of Rev.Fr. Dr. Wilfred Sumani as the Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Dr. Phillip Mbeta, Mrs. Lostina Chapola, Mr. Fredrick Chawinga, Mr. Innocent Chikopa, and Mr. Francis Vincent Nkhoma.
Through the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan, the Catholic University of Malawi strived to improve the quality and relevance of its academic programmes, implement quality assurance measures that ensure that education offered meets objectives of the University; strengthen research and publications in all disciplines, provide research training of highest quality, establish research links with other research centres and academic institutions.
The plan also identified a need to train Bible Knowledge and Religious Education teachers, Special Needs Education teachers; train Monitoring and Evaluation Managers to cope with contemporary challenges in listing some but a few.
Established in 2004 by the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), the Catholic University of Malawi has been a centre of excellence in providing quality education in Malawi and beyond.
The University has seven faculties offering various certificates, diplomas, and degree programmes.
